In Memoriam: Walker Douglas, MD (Jan. 28, 1939 - March 19, 2022)

Walker was born in Nashville, Tennessee, January 28, 1939. When he was eight years old, the family moved to Richland, Washington where his father worked at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. After graduating from high school he moved to Seattle where he attended the University of Washington, receiving BS and MD degrees. While in medical school he married Diane Huskey. They moved to Baltimore, MD where Walker did his internship at Baltimore City Hospital. Drafted into the Army, he served as a preventive medicine officer at Fort Lee, VA and in Vietnam.

Returning to Baltimore, he completed his training to become an internist. While in Baltimore, their son, Gregory Alan, was born. The family returned to Seattle where Walker did a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Washington and Veterans Administration Hospital. He practiced as a specialist in that field for 26 years at Group Health Cooperative on Capitol Hill in Seattle.

Walker had a deep appreciation for the beauty in nature which he expressed in his photography. He enjoyed outdoor activities of the region with zest: hiking, cycling, skiing and sailing. He had a life-long love of classical and religious music. A man of faith, he sang in the choir, served as an elder and participated in men's groups at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle.

He is survived by three brothers: James (Annette) of Pasco, WA, David (Aileen) of Mesa, AZ, and Marc (Cheryle) of Hillsboro, OR. He is missed very much by his wife, Diane, of 59 years, their son, Gregory, his wife, Racquel, and his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace and Ian Walker Douglas.
