In Memoriam: Roderick Daniel MacDougall, Jr., MD ( October 31, 1944 - December 30, 2024)
Dr. Roderick Daniel MacDougall, Jr. died of dementia at the age of 80, surrounded by loved ones, including his wife Nora Lindsay Taylor MacDougall and his three children.
Dan had a deep love for God and showed it through his relationships and service. Born in Lubbock, Texas, his childhood instilled a lifelong passion for baseball. He met his wife of over 56 years while playing baseball and attending Oklahoma State University. After medical school at UTMB -Galveston he joined the Army, had their first daughter, and moved to Germany where Dan served as a general physician, achieving the rank of Major.
Upon return to the US, their son was born and Dan completed a pediatric residency at the Univ. of Florida. The family settled on Mercer Island, had their second daughter, and Dan worked for Group Health of Puget Sound for over 30 years receiving their service award.
For 3 decades, Dan and Lindsay traveled the world offering medical care to those in need, invariably ever-changed by those they served. The couple was also honored twice as Mercer Island Hometown Heroes and nominated for the Seattle Times Jefferson award. For fun and friendship, Dan played with the Puget Sound Senior Baseball League, pitching on 8 senior World Series winning teams. He was inducted into both the PSSBL Hall of Fame and the Roy Hobbs Hall of Fame.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Lindsay, his children Kimberly Lin Jewett (David), Lane Taylor MacDougall (Sheila), and Anne Stuart Linderman (Scott), his 8 grandchildren (Rachel, Natalie, Logan, Seth, Brady, Cole, Evelyn, and Nora), his sister Diana Thomas, his nieces Carey Parker and Jamie Gaines, and many loved cousins, grandnieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roderick D. MacDougall and Evvalyn MacDougall.
Military honors were presented January 6, 2025 at Tahoma National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on March 2, 2025, 2pm at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church.
